Guitar shopping

Tagged:
Lately I have been doing some guitar shopping. I have been thinking about getting back into it for a while now, after many years away, and was curious what real musicians might recommend as a good "beginner" guitar. I have some preferences/prejudices from back in the day (I like Ovation, even though I know some people don't prefer them, I had one years ago and it was solid - I like the price point and idea of the Celebrity), and so have been doing some online research. Ovation Celebrity CC24 Seagull comes up a lot as a recommendation, as does Ibanez, Yamaha, Washburn. and every now and then Ovation. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but probably will do so soon. Something else I noticed just today is spurring me on - Garage Band now has lessons, including artist's lessons. Now I may suck at the guitar, and these lessons may never help me, but it's just pretty damn cool to be able to have Sting even *try* to teach you Roxanne, and the like. I haven't jumped at iLife 09 yet either, but this combination might be the catalyst I need (a new guitar AND GarageBand).

Just noticed Leopard is

Just noticed Leopard is required for iLife 09 - bastards. I don't have Leopard, and don't particularly want to have to pay to upgrade my OS, seems to work fine right now - other than requirements crap like this. Oh well, no iLife for me - still getting a guitar though ;).

guitar

I have had a takamine for about ten years and love it. It has a similar fretboard to ovation and a can be had for a decent price. BTW your captcha is the hardest to read I have ever seen :(

Takamine et al

I hear Takamine are good, thanks for the note. Actually I think it's the same parent company as Ovation ;). Anyway, yeah, the captcha here SUCKS, I agree, but it's the Drupal built in one. I had a simple math one I wrote myself for about 5-6 years, but the bots started catching on and the volume of spam was crazy. I will try to make that one better, but its really unfortunate that there has to be one at all.

CAPTCHA FIXED

Ok, there were several problems, solved once someone prodded me into doing something about it ;). 1. The Drupal CAPTCHA module hides the "Image Captcha" settings button very well, I had never seen it before. 2. I had to find and install some true type fonts So it wasn't totally Drupal's fault, but anyway, it's much better now (still not good, but better).
